We just called Dell on the same matter and they claim it's not a problem on
their end, and we should call Microsoft for support.

Problem is we just purchased the Snapshot license to get the hardware VSS
provider working with DPM 2010.

Probably a long shot, but have you had any more progress with this?
No, supposedly a more advanced tech should be on the case but our account rep
just changed and I felt like it was really low priority despite our support
agreement. So we're in limbo.
Are you running 2008 R2 as well or 2008? And DPM 2010 or 2007?
Did you get this issue resolved? We are trying to do exactly the same thing
with our MD3000i and the VSS hardware snapshot provider and are experiencing
similar issues.

I've been testing DPM2010 within a VM on Hyper-V 2008R2 and today implemented
our SAN (Dell MD3000i) hardware VDS/VSS provider on the host (also 2008R2).
The snapshot appears to fail on the host, timing out and registering the

Were you able to resolve the issue? I am having the same problem with MD3000i
and hardware VSS provider.

No. Dell doesn't want to acknowledge it's their problem and blames it on the
software.

Since last posting, I also tried Backup Exec from Symantec which fails with
the exact same problem, but Dell still thinks it's the software. Both
Microsoft and Symantec's software is buggy, while theirs is "working as
designed". Go figure...

I'd suggest opening a support ticket with them. If enough people report the
problem maybe they start doing something about it.
