The Parameter is incorrect (0x80070057)

James - this error happens at a point where DPM is unable to figure out what
went wrong in the subsystem. At this point, we would need traces to dig
deeper in to the cause of the error. If you can help repro this issue, it'll
be one less unknown error in the system!

Thanks,

Status: Failed
Description: An unexpected error occurred during job execution. (ID 104
Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057))
Start time: 1/18/2007 8:16:51 AM
Time elapsed: 02:51:29
Data transferred: 64,043.44 MB (67154411520 bytes)
I've seen this error both in Beta V2 and DPM 2006 SP1. Is there anyway to
make this error more descriptive? What parameter was incorrect? Is there
something wrong with the file server? Is there something wrong with DPM?
What
is the next step when this error is encountered?
Thanks
James

It's happening fairly consistently on the same file server in both versions
of DPM. I have one failure from yesterday for DPM 2006 SP1 and 3 today for
Beta2 Let me know what I need to do and I will get it done.

Hi Jamesk,

This is a known issue for DPMV1 and it happens when you have low system
resources on
your machine. You should follow the below workaround to resolve the issue
1. Increase the protected volume size to have atleast 30% free space
2. Run Defrag on all the volumes on file server
3. Run Consistency check

Can you give us more details on the exact alert you are seeing in DPM V2?
Please provide us traces to understand more about the issue in V2.

Jamesk,

I ran into this same error as well. I found a resolution I believe corrected
the error, however, I am not sure as to why it worked.

My errors were encountered when attempting to synch with the specified file
server. In order to resolve the error I manually added data to the file
server protected volumes (just some random .txt files and folders) and then
performed the synch again successfully. I was able to synch again after that
successfully without adding additional data.

Not sure if this helps just thought I would post my experiences. FYI, I am
using DPMv2.

There were some messed up files on the file system. These files were missing
the security tab. They were not accessible to the administrator account and I
was unable to take ownership of these files. Cacls was unable to change the
files. Trying to move the files caused odd errors, one even mentioned MS-DOS
if you can believe it. Since these were old files I backed them up with
ntbackup and deleted them. I have not had the error messages since then.

The files had been restored a year ago with backup exec using tapes that
were written to by a faulty tape library. That's my only guess as to why
those files would be that way.

Ok sounds good. I'll keep an eye out for any files of that type.
